At Morning Star Nursery School we promote learning and development expressed through activities and play. Our children value is unique, in that Morning Star Nursery School provide a secure and loving environment for your child which complements home life, whilst providing you parents flexibility, choice and support in bringing up a happy and well adjusted child.
EYFS Principled ApproachOur days are structured around the 7 aspect of the early years foundation stages framework. The EYFS promotes effective practice through each of the seven areas of learning to support children through various stages of maturity and development. These are reflected in your child's learning journey and personalised planning, they include;

Supporting Every Child
Our sensitive and knowledgeable staff are trained, coached and mentored into knowing how and when to meet children's needs, engaging and offering appropriate support at different times. Our daily routines offer a range of experiences giving children predictability whilst also challenging them.
Observation, Assessment and LearningThrough our observations we start with the child to find out their needs, interests and what they can do. We record these information and make decisions through our assessments in each child's learning journey as to what they have achieved or the next steps in their progress. We then plan a range of adult led and child led activities which are continually adapted and added to as the children's interests and needs change.
The Learning Environment
We create indoor environments which are age appropriate, well maintained, and accessible for all children. They give opportunities for a wide range of planned and free play activities where the children can explore a safe, secure and challenging environment. Our outdoor environments are accessed frequently throughout the day with opportunities for children to experience activities and resources on different scales and in different ways than indoors. Through our garden areas children have chance to be imaginative, physical, creative and develop sensory awareness, as well as having first hand contact with the natural world and the seasons.
Active Learning
Our environments encourage the children to be mentally and physically involved by having a secure and confident attachment with their key person. This enables our children to be interested in finding out things for themselves in a child focused environment which fosters independence and control in their learning through decision making.
Play and Exploration
In creating different contexts for learning practitioners provide your child with plenty of space and time to play both the indoors and out enabling learning through experience. The children have opportunities in each area to play with others, for example in our imaginative play areas, or to choose to play alone. Many of our activities are open-ended, including treasure baskets and heuristic play, which allow them to try things out, solve problems, be creative, take risks and use trial and error.
Creativity and Critical Thinking
Morning Star Nursery School encourages children to make connections in their learning by using sustained shared thinking between the child and their key person. We aim to show that they are aware of the children's interests and understanding to enable them to develop an idea or skill whilst giving them time and space to learn
